Weekly Update

Dear Church Family

On Sunday I mentioned that I would be contacting the church about Carl Sheehy’s Funeral. On Saturday February 26th there will be a time to greet the family from 10-10:45 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. and a luncheon after that. All are welcome to join and I ask that you continue to pray for Connie, Tammy, Barb and the rest of Carl’s family. You can find his digital obituary here.

TONIGHT

Tonight the midweek children’s service resumes! (YAY!!) Chrissy has lessons and fun planned starting at 7:00 pm. The teens will continue their study in the Teen Room and in the Sanctuary the adults will move on to Article 2- which is our understanding of Jesus. ALABASTER OFFERINGS

Sunday Morning we will be receiving the February Alabaster offering. The Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings around the world. While we understand the church consists of the people of God and not a building, buildings erected for the purpose of ministry help provide a sense of permanence, functionally enhance ministry efforts, and convey an attitude that the Church of the Nazarene intends to "put down roots." LENT

There is never a bad time to dig even deeper into the faith, which means that Lent is a good time to do so. Lent is the 40 days before Easter (excluding Sundays) which mimic Jesus' 40 days in the desert. This time is meant to include a type of fasting from something which may or may not detract us from faith. When we face the desire or craving which we have willingly deprived ourselves, we should turn to God. In addition to fasting, I encourage that all of us Feast on a means of grace. God provides us all with many ways to connect to God. Our Lenten practices begin with the Ash Wednesday service on March 2. If you've never attended an Ash Wednesday service, if you're unsure about it, I invite you to try and see how God's grace appears to you this year. To assist you we will be using The Way Through which is a Lenten Devotional developed by aplainaccount.org , A Wesleyan Lectionary Commentary. Unlike many devotionals, this one is not merely prayer and reading. It also includes audio, visual, a weekly walk, and a weekly prayer for examen. My prayer is that the devotional being multi-sensory entices you to participate. Additionally I hope this format helps us to understand God and our role in God's creation even more. Wednesday Night Dinners

Some have asked when we will be resuming Wednesday night dinners. While covid case levels have dropped to September levels, we are delaying them even further for a good reason. On Sunday, Feb 13 after months of prayer, deliberation, getting quotes and samples, the board voted to carpet the gymnasium. Before that work gets done, we will need to do a work day to button up some of the dry wall and do some floor prep.

Women's Ministry Don't forget that on March 5 we will have a party for the Women's Ministry at 3:00 p.m. The theme is "Spring Break Destination Hawaii." Please bring a salad or a desert. Dress in florals or bright colors. We will be having games and entertainment. Don't forget to bring someone with you! Please let Janis or Laura know if you plan to attend.
