This Week at Clyde Park

A Note from Pastor Ryan

When I was standing in lines as a kid, I would often wait to go the very end of the line because the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. This coming Sunday we will read Jesus saying those words. THey come after Jesus tells the story of the generous land owner. He keeps finding workers throughout the day. Some he hires 1 hour before the end of the work day. Then the landowner pays people in reverse order of arrival. 

The last to get there are paid a full days wage. The first see this and think they should get paid significantly more. The land owner does NOT pay them more. They grumble because they get the wage they agreed on. The land owner reprimands them for being jealous of his generosity. He did not cheat them, the landowner was simply extra generous. 

I've heard this story dozens of times. Enough to make light of it while standing in lines. But not until this week did it cross my mind that the payment method was odd. The land owner could have paid people in the order of arrival time. If he had, then the ones who arrived first would have never known that the ones who arrived later were paid the same. The landowner could have avoided the grumbling, but that would miss the lesson. By paying the last first and the first last, he is revealing to the first the truth of their own envy. The lesson is found in people believing they are entitled to more. Our hearts are often covetous or envious. We would do well to guard our hearts and to make sure that as we work for the Lord we do so gladly. Our reward will one day be FAR greater than a simple days wage for we serve a generous God who does not give us grace based on what we have done, but purely based on God's generosity. 

You won't want to miss this Sunday, we will get to participate in a baptism ceremony. Additionally, we have the annual picnic which means WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION. 

So far families have only signed up for one potato dish, one fruit dish, and one salad. Please bring a casserole or a fruit or veggie, at this point we'll take about any food. The church will be providing pulled pork. 

Additionally, Pastor Ryan will need help at 3pm on Saturday setting up the tent and tables and chairs for the picnic. PLEASE come help me!

The Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings that support ministry efforts globally, including places for worship, learning, healing, and housing for missionaries.

Game Day

Will is hosting a game day, October 3^rd, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the gym. Bring a game and drop in for some fun.

Trick-or Treat Trail

Annual Trick or Treat Trail will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Lamar Park. We have a table where we hand out candy and church information. Please let Lori Schriver or Pastor Ryan know if you can help during this event, If you would like to carpool, we will leave the church at 3:00 p.m.

Please join us for our annual Harvest Festival & Trunk or Treat Community Outreach

October 24^th from 2-4PM!

This is a great time for outreach in showing love to our neighbors, how great our church community is and see some really cute kids in costumes. Please see sign-up sheets in the foyer and donate candy so we can serve between 200-2,000 kids. We can use everyone that can help out! See Pastor Chrissy with any questions!
