That'll Show em- a reflection on Matthew 21:33-46
Jesus really handed it to them, didn't he? He went right after the chief priests and the Pharisees. It had to have felt good to those who were standing around. The Pharisees and Chief priests were people in power and they would say one thing and act another way. They lacked integrity, and as Jesus shows by this parable, they were not bearing fruit of the Kingdom.
That was the expectation for God's people. Some of the leaders believed that because of their genetics, they were guaranteed to be God's chosen people. Jesus is picking up John the Baptist's teaching which rejects supremacy based on ancestry. In Matthew 3:9 John rebukes the leaders saying, "And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham."
Being chosen by God we now call election. And while Nazarenes tend to not speak of it much, what we do understand is that those who are called by God, those who are God's people don't get to just "name it and claim it." God's people cannot point to genetics or genealogy. God's people are elect because they abide in Jesus. The election becomes evidenced by the fruit that people bear. It is clear that Jesus, in rejecting the chief priests and the pharisees, is rejecting all who do not bear fruit.
And this can seem at odds with our understanding of grace. God forgives and has everlasting steadfast love. Yes. This is true. AND God's love does not tolerate injustice. God's love does not permit evil. Those who love God respond by loving neighbor, by bearing fruit.

Women's Ministry Craft Day
October17th, 1:00 p.m. we will be making wreaths. Please sign-up in the foyer so we know what seasonal wreath you are going to make. We want to make sure to have enough supplies!
We could still use a few more people to volunteer to do the trick or treat trail Saturday. Please let pastor Ryan know if you are willing to represent the church!
Trick-or Treat Trail
Annual Trick or Treat Trail will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Lamar Park. We have a table where we hand out candy and church information. Please let Lori Schriver or Pastor Ryan know if you can help during this event. If you would like to carpool, we will leave the church at 3:00 p.m.
Please join us for our annual Harvest Festival & Trunk or Treat Community Outreach
October 24th from 2-4PM!
This is a great time for outreach in showing love to our neighbors, how great our church community is and see some really cute kids in costumes. Please donate candy so we can serve between 200-2,000 kids. We are in need of a lot more candy. If you are able to help out with this, it would be greatly appreciated! We can use everyone that can help out! See Pastor Chrissy with any questions!
