A Note from Pastor Ryan
This week many of my prayers have been dedicated to next week's VBS. I have been praying in part, because I love VBS. Yes I love the fun of it. I enjoy playing with the kids, I enjoy the decorating and the excitement the week brings.
From a strategic standpoint, VBS is great for us as an organization. It is healthy for Christians to serve together. Working together deepens relationships and helps with missional cohesion. Furthermore it shows active faith. VBS is a chance for us to pass on the faith which we have inherited. It gives us a chance to take seriously Jesus instructions to “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
In addition to all of this, I was thinking about the passage for this Sunday. Abraham welcomes strangers who are likely angels. They bring the message that Sarah will be with child. This is one of the many examples of God's people offering hospitality. Hebrews references this passage when it says that through hospitality "some have entertained angels unawares."
VBS gives us a chance, as a church, to offer hospitality. We know that we will have visitors. We get to welcome children, we get to connect with their adults, and it is a chance to share the good news with a world which desperately needs good news.
I pray that you will come decorate on Sunday morning. I pray that you have been praying, that you have been inviting. It is going to be a great week and I don't want you to miss out on what good stuff God is going to be doing.
