Epiphany of the Lord

Announcements

Invocation

Scripture: Isaiah 60:1-6

1 Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

2 For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you.

3 Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

4 Lift up your eyes and look around; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from far away, and your daughters shall be carried on their nurses' arms.

5 Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and rejoice, because the abundance of the sea shall be brought to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you.

6 A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come. They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord.

“We Three Kings”

Hymn #202

We three kings of Orient are;

Bearing gifts we traverse afar-

Field and fountain, moor and mountain-

Following yonder star.

O star of wonder, star of night,

Star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading,

still proceeding,

Guide us to the perfect light.

Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain,

Gold I bring to crown Him again-

King forever, ceasing never,

Over us all to reign.

O star of wonder, star of night,

Star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading,

still proceeding,

Guide us to the perfect light.

Frankincense to offer have I;

Incense owns a Deity nigh.

Prayer and praising,

all men raising-

Worship Him, God on high.

O star of wonder, star of night,

Star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading,

still proceeding,

Guide us to the perfect light.

Myrrh is mine; its bitter fume

Breathes a life of gath’ring gloom-

Sorr’wing, sighing, bleeding, dying,

Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.

O star of wonder, star of night,

Star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading,

still proceeding,

Guide us to the perfect light.

Glorious now behold Him arise-

King and God and Sacrifice.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Earth to heav’n replies.

O star of wonder, star of night,

Star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading,

still proceeding,

Guide us to the perfect light.

“Go Tell it on the Mountain ”

Hymn #181

Go tell it on the mountain,

Over the hills and ev-’ry-where;

Go, tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born!

While shepherds kept their watching

O’er silent flocks by night,

Behold thro’out the heavens

There shone a holy light.

Go tell it on the mountain,

Over the hills and ev-’ry-where;

Go, tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born!

The shepherds feared and trembled

When lo above the earth

Rang out the angel chorus

That hailed our Savior’s birth.

Go tell it on the mountain,

Over the hills and ev-’ry-where;

Go, tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born!

Down in a lowly manger

The humble Christ was born,

And bro’t us God’s salvation

That blessed Christmas morn.

Go tell it on the mountain,

Over the hills and ev-’ry-where;

Go, tell it on the mountain

That Jesus Christ is born!

Invitation

Confession

Pardon

Peace

Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him,

who earnestly repent of their sin   and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

Merciful God, We confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church.

We have not done your will, we have broken your law,

we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy.

Hear the good news,

Christ died for us while we were still sinners,

which proves God’s love for us. In the name of Jesus Christ, You Are forgiven

In the name of Jesus Christ, You Are forgiven

Glory to God, Amen.

Scripture: Psalm 72:1-7, 10-14

1 Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to a king's son.

2 May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

3 May the mountains yield prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness.

4 May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor.

5 May he live while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.

6 May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.

7 In his days may righteousness flourish and peace abound, until the moon is no more.

10 May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles render him tribute, may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts.

11 May all kings fall down before him, all nations give him service.

12 For he delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper.

13 He has pity on the weak and the needy, and saves the lives of the needy.

14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life; and precious is their blood in his sight.

Joys & Concerns

Scripture: Ephesians 3:1-12

1 This is the reason that I Paul am a prisoner for Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—

2 for surely you have already heard of the commission of God's grace that was given me for you,

3 and how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I wrote above in a few words,

4 a reading of which will enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of Christ.

5 In former generations this mystery was not made known to humankind, as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit:

6 that is, the Gentiles have become fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

7 Of this gospel I have become a servant according to the gift of God's grace that was given me by the working of his power.

8 Although I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given to me to bring to the Gentiles the news of the boundless riches of Christ,

9 and to make everyone see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things;

10 so that through the church the wisdom of God in its rich variety might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.

11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose that he has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord,

12 in whom we have access to God in boldness and confidence through faith in him.

“God of Science”

[Verse 1]

You started science and quantum physics

Wrote the law of gravity

You are the smartest, You are the greatest

Scientist in history

You thought of narwhals and armadillos

All the creatures great and small

Even the dinos a long, long time ago

With their teeth and terrible claws

[Chorus]

Our Great God of all things bright and

Our Great God of all things beautiful

Our Great God of all things wild and free, free

Thank you, God, for making me

[Verse 2]

You made my atoms and all my organs

Every strand of DNA

You are the artist, we are the canvas

We're uniquely wonderfully made

You make me happy, my bones and body

Love to dance like stars at night

So, let's get started and have a party

Celebrate this marvelous life, yeah

[Chorus]

Our Great God of all things bright and

Our Great God of all things beautiful

Our Great God of all things wild and free, free

Thank you, God, for making me

[Bridge]

You made apple juice, sunflowers

Penguins and rhinos

Pineapples, Jupiter

Elbows and geckos

Broccoli, Mercury

Sunshine and weirdos

Pandas and nostrils and trees

Bumblebees, polar bears

Raptors and eyebrows

Wildebeests, moustaches

Earlobes and wormholes

Mountain goats, volcanoes

Turtles and big toes

Pandas and nostrils and trees

Puppy dogs, waterfalls

Kittens and rainbows

Galaxies, mushrooms and

Badgers and pharaohs

Elephants, great white sharks

Music and mangos

Pandas and nostrils and trees

Pandas and nostrils and trees?

[Chorus]

Our Great God of all things bright and

Our Great God of all things beautiful

Our Great God of all things wild and free, free

Thank you, God, for making me

Our Great God of all things bright and

Our Great God of all things beautiful

Our Great God of all things wild and free, free

Thank you, God, for making me

Thank you, God, for making me

Thank you, God, for making me

Scripture: Matthew 2:1-12

1 In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,

2 asking, "Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage."

3 When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him;

4 and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.

5 They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet:

6 "And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel.' "

7 Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared.

8 Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage."

9 When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was.

10 When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy.

11 On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

12 And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.

Homily: Pastor Ryan

“Jesus, the King of Creation”

Communion

The Communion Supper, instituted by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a sacrament, which proclaims His life, His sufferings, His sacrificial death and resurrection, and the hope of His coming again. Brothers and sisters in Christ, the Christian life is redeemed from sin and consecrated to God.The Supper is a means of grace in which Christ is present

by the Spirit.

It is to be received in reverent appreciation and gratefulness for the work of Christ. All those who are truly repentant, forsaking their sins, and believing in Christ for salvation are invited to participate in the death and resurrection of Christ. We come to the table that we may be renewed in life and salvation and be made one by the Spirit.

In unity with the Church, we confess our faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Holy God, We gather at this, your table, in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who by your Spirit was anointed to preach good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives, set at liberty those who are oppressed.

2-17 Christ healed the sick, fed the hungry, ate with sinners, and established the new covenant for forgiveness of sins. We live in the hope of His coming again.

On the night in which He was betrayed, He took bread, gave thanks, broke the bread, gave it to His disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

Likewise, when the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks, gave it to His disciples, and said: “Drink from this, all of you, this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of me.” Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

And so, we gather as the Body of Christ to offer ourselves to you in praise and thanksgiving. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us and on these your gifts. Make them by the power of your Spirit to be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the Body of Christ, redeemed by His blood.

By your Spirit make us one in Christ, one with each other, and one in the ministry of Christ to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, let us pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen

Benediction

Our mission is to love people so that

they become Disciples of Christ!
