What's Going on? `

Dear Church Family, Can you believe summer is almost over! This Fall we have quite a few events happening and we wanted to make sure you are kept in the loop. Life Celebration for Craig Shafer As you may recall on June 13th, Craig Shafer unexpectedly passed away. His family is holding a Celebration of Life service this upcoming Saturday, August 20th at 11 am. The ceremony will be at Woodside Bible Church 9000 Highland Rd. White Lake, MI 48386 A Special Need. When Afghanistan fell in August of 2021, the Taliban began targeting female members of the former government along with their families. As a result, the _____ family was forced to flee their home in Afghanistan to live as refugees in Pakistan. (We know their name, but cannot publish it for security purposes). Unfortunately, Pakistan is not a viable permanent solution and they cannot return home. For now, they continue to stay in Pakistan while their application to come to Canada through World Renew is processed. The course of coming to Canada is estimated to take one year and will cost approximately $116,000. The Devonwood Community Church of the Nazarene and other partners in Windsor, Canada will journey with the family upon arrival and will ensure that they are cared for while they adjust to their new life in Canada.

Since late 2020, Rev. Matthew Soulia, Executive Director of Forge Flint (NCM), has served as an English instructor to a family member and has become a friend to them. He has reached out to several congregations throughout Michigan and beyond to help provide the support this family needs, including ours. Our immediate goal is that we would be able to provide the funds to cover their costs for September, which is estimated to be $500. We will take a special offering on August 28 and we are looking into additional fundraisers in an effort to help support this family. Donations will be accepted from now until the need is met. Please indicate on all gifts that they are designated for “The Refugee Family” or “Forge Flint”. Thank you for your generosity and love for those that God has placed in our path. - Emily Shelden, Missions President. Let's Show some LOVE! As you know, Noah Maclam was born early and has been in the NICU for several weeks. He’s undergone a few surgeries and has more to go. To help encourage Katie and her family during this difficult time of her family being separated, we’d like to give her some cards of encouragement and support. You can bring them to church, or mail them to her yourself. If you’d like to include gift cards to help with gas or food, please feel welcome to do so. Contact Emily Quanstrom (815-953-9792) if you have questions or need Katie’s address.
