A Note from Pastor Ryan

One of the readings for today is from Psalm 119:33- 40. In this Psalm, the writer cries out to God for instruction. He wants to know God's way, God's decrees, Gods law. In a round about way, it is asking for wisdom.

We live in an age where people seem to want to be right rather than taught. Learning is not always an easy thing, it changes and challenges us. But this Psalmist has the correct desire, we should long for God's precepts, but do we? Do you long for God's statutes and precepts? Today would be a good day to pray these words. And if we cannot pray them honestly, perhaps we should repent so that we can pray them honestly.

33 Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees,

    that I may follow it to the end.

34 Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law

    and obey it with all my heart.

35 Direct me in the path of your commands,

    for there I find delight.

36 Turn my heart toward your statutes

    and not toward selfish gain.

37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things;

    preserve my life according to your word.

38 Fulfill your promise to your servant,

    so that you may be feared.

39 Take away the disgrace I dread,

    for your laws are good.

40 How I long for your precepts!

    In your righteousness preserve my life.
