A Note from Pastor Ryan

Winter won't go away.

I'm tired of it being cold. I'm tired of the snow. I'm tired of being indoors. I'm tired of other people staying indoors. I'm tired of the howling winds and the storms.

I'm guessing many of you may feel the same.

Perhaps they are the storms of kids getting sick, parents getting sick, family members being in pain. Maybe they are storms of tight finances or even a lack of satisfaction with life. Maybe they are storms of anger, depression, or anxiety. We all face storms.

This moring I found myself singing these lyrics, " "Hello hurricane, you're not enough. Hello hurricane, you can't silence my love." They are from Switchfoot's song, "Hello Hurricane."

I sing them aspirationally. Sometimes I let the storms threaten my love. But I pray that I will never let the storms silence my love. Love of course is what we Christians are called to be. God is love, so should we be.

I pray that I won't let the storms prevent me from being patient or kind. They won't make me envy, boast, dishonor others, keep a record of wrongs. I won't let the storms make me become proud, self-seeking, or easily angered. The storms will not make me delight in evil. Instead, I rejoice in the truth. I pray that instead Gods love will always protect, always trust, always hope, and always persevere.

On this blustery March day, I pray that you won't let the storms of life silence your love either. It is easy to wilt. It is easy to be silent, to complain. It is easy to turn inwards and avoid people. It is easy to be unloving. But we are God's kids. We are children of love. My sisters and brothers, stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. Love always.

A Note from Pastor Ryan I recently heard someone say, “Disillusionment is a superpower.” It struck me as odd because we usually use that word negatively. However, he pointed out that when we are disil
