Ascension Sunday Morning Worship Service

May 24, 2020

Invocation

Psalms 68:1-10, 32-35

68:1 Let God rise up, let his enemies be scattered;

let those who hate him flee before him.

2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away;

as wax melts before the fire,

let the wicked perish before God.

3 But let the righteous be joyful;

let them exult before God;

let them be jubilant with joy.

4 Sing to God, sing praises to his name;

lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds —

his name is the Lord—

be exultant before him.

5 Father of orphans and protector of widows

is God in his holy habitation.

6 God gives the desolate a home to live in;

he leads out the prisoners to prosperity,

but the rebellious live in a parched land.

7 O God, when you went out before your people,

when you marched through the wilderness,Selah

8 the earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain

at the presence of God, the God of Sinai,

at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

9 Rain in abundance, O God, you showered abroad;

you restored your heritage when it languished;

10 your flock found a dwelling in it;

in your goodness, O God, you provided for the needy.

32. Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth;

sing praises to the Lord,Selah

33. O rider in the heavens, the ancient heavens;

listen, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice.

34. Ascribe power to God,

whose majesty is over Israel;

and whose power is in the skies.

35. Awesome is God in his sanctuary,

the God of Israel;

he gives power and strength to his people.

All hail the power of Jesus' name! 1 All hail the power of Jesus' name! Let angels prostrate fall. Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all. Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him Lord of all! 2 O seed of Israel's chosen race now ransomed from the fall, hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all. Hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all! 3 Let every tongue and every tribe responsive to his call, to him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all. To him all majesty ascribe, and crown him Lord of all! 4 Oh, that with all the sacred throng we at his feet may fall! We'll join the everlasting song and crown him Lord of all. We'll join the everlasting song and crown him Lord of all.  Shine Jesus Shine Lord, the light of your love is shining In the midst of the darkness, shining Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us Set us free by the truth you now bring us Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine Fill this land with the Father's glory Blaze, Spirit, blaze Set our hearts on fire Flow, river, flow Flood the nations with grace and mercy Send forth your word Lord, and let there be light

Lord, I come to your awesome presence From the shadows into your radiance By the blood I may enter your brightness Search me, try me, consume all my darkness Shine on me, shine on me

As we gaze on your kingly brightness So our faces display your likeness Ever changing from glory to glory Mirrored here may our lives tell your story Shine on me, shine on me He is Lord He Is Lord; He Is Lord He Has Risen From The Dead And He Is Lord, Every Knee Shall Bow, Every Tongue Confess That Jesus Christ Is Lord. He’s My Lord, He’s My Lord He Has Risen From The Dead And He’s My Lord Yes, My Knee Shall Bow And My Tongue Confess That Jesus Christ Is Lord.

1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11

4:12. Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13. But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ's sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed. 14. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you

5:6. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. 7. Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. 8. Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. 9. Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. 10. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. 11. To him be the power forever and ever. Amen.

Matthew 12:22-37

12:22. Then they brought to him a demoniac who was blind and mute; and he cured him, so that the one who had been mute could speak and see. 23. All the crowds were amazed and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” 24. But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons, that this fellow casts out the demons.” 25. He knew what they were thinking and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? 27. If I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your own exorcists cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 28. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come to you. 29. Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his property, without first tying up the strong man? Then indeed the house can be plundered. 30. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 31. Therefore I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

33. “Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit. 34. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good things, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35. The good person brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil person brings evil things out of an evil treasure. 36. I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter; 37. for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
