Invocation

Psalm 99

1 The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble!

He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!

2 The Lord is great in Zion;

he is exalted over all the peoples.

3 Let them praise your great and awesome name.

Holy is he!

4 Mighty King, lover of justice,

you have established equity;

you have executed justice

and righteousness in Jacob.

5 Extol the Lord our God;

worship at his footstool.

Holy is he!

6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,

Samuel also was among those who called on his name.

They cried to the Lord, and he answered them.

7 He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud;

they kept his decrees,

and the statutes that he gave them.

8 O Lord our God, you answered them;

you were a forgiving God to them,

but an avenger of their wrongdoings.

9 Extol the Lord our God,

and worship at his holy mountain;

for the Lord our God is holy.

Fill this House

Holy spirit, come and fill this house up. Let Your love fall like a fire, consume us, Lord. Come, Lord, Jesus, let Your rain fall on us. In Your presence, come and change our hearts to Yours

We've come to bring glory. We've come to bring faith. We've come to bring honor to Your holy name. We've come to dance. We've come to sing. We've come to encounter Jesus, our king.

Holy spirit, come and fill this house up. Let Your love fall like a fire, consume us, Lord. Come, Lord, Jesus, let Your rain fall on us. In Your presence, come and change our hearts to Yours.

We've come to bring glory. We've come to bring faith. We've come to bring honor to Your holy name. We've come to dance. We've come to sing. We've come to encounter Jesus, our king.

Living fire, come and overflow to our desire, You and You alone. Living fire, come and overflow to our desire, You and You alone. Living fire, come and overflow to our desire, You and You alone. Living fire, come and overflow to our desire, You and You alone.

Holy spirit, come and fill this house up. Let Your love fall like a fire, consume us, Lord. Come, Lord, Jesus, let Your rain fall on us. In Your presence, come and change our hearts to Yours.

Oceans

You call me out upon the waters The great unknown where feet may fail And there I find You in the mystery In oceans deep My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters Your sovereign hand Will be my guide Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name And keep my eyes above the waves When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders Let me walk upon the waters Wherever You would call me Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander And my faith will be made stronger In the presence of my Savior

I will call upon Your name Keep my eyes above the waves My soul will rest in Your embrace I am Yours and You are mine

When you pass through the waters I will be with you And the depths of the river shall not overwhelm When you walk through the fire you will not be burned I am the Lord, I am the Lord

And there is nothing to fear, nothing to fear There is nothing to fear, nothing to fear For I am with you always

In the depths of your sorrow I wept beside you When you walked through the shadow I drew you near Yesterday, today, tomorrow - always the same I am the Lord, I am the Lord

And there is nothing to fear, nothing to fear There is nothing to fear, nothing to fear For I am with you always

And there is nothing to fear, nothing to fear There is nothing to fear, nothing to fear For I am with you always

What can separate you from My perfect Love? What can separate you from My perfect Love? What can separate you from My perfect Love?

Do not fear Do not fear Do not fear

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

Grace to you and peace.

2 We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake. 6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has become known, so that we have no need to speak about it. 9 For the people of those regions report about us what kind of welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath that is coming.

Joys and Concerns Prayer

Matthew 23:1-12

1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat; 3 therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach. 4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of others; but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long. 6 They love to have the place of honor at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, 7 and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have people call them rabbi. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all students. 9 And call no one your father on earth, for you have one Father—the one in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.

Discussion Questions

In Matthew 23:3 "Do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach." This tells us that one major problem people face is knowing the right things, but not actually putting them to practice. Are there any things which you know you ought to do, but do not do them? What prevents you from being obedient to the Holy Spirit?

Even if we are obedient, there are ways in which the sinful nature can corrupt our obedience. We can merely perform for the sake of praise or "saving face." How do you keep yourself in check to make sure that your obedience is authentic and not performative?

Sometimes the things which most think we have under our control are the things that control us. Humility is a disposition which is hard for us to recognize ourselves. We can think of ourselves as humble, but even that might be a form of self deception or pride. Furthermore, humility can lead to a downward spiral which causes us to forget that we are deeply loved by God. What practices do you put in place to have a healthy humility which recognizes God's work in us while guarding against self elevation?
