Proper 15

Announcements

Worship & Music Leader: Brent Metz

Invocation

Scripture: Psalm 34:9-14

9 O fear the Lord, you his holy ones, for those who fear him have no want.

10 The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

11 Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

12 Which of you desires life, and covets many days to enjoy good?

13 Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.

14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

“Holiness Unto the Lord”

1 "Called unto holiness," Church of our God, Purchase of Jesus, redeemed by His blood; Called from the world and its idols to flee, Called from the bondage of sin to be free.

Chorus: "Holiness unto the Lord" is our watchword and song," "Holiness unto the Lord" as we're marching along; Sing it, shout it, loud and long, "Holiness unto the Lord," now and forever.

2 "Called unto holiness," children of light, Walking with Jesus in garments of white; Raiment unsullied, untarnished with sin, God's Holy Spirit abiding within.

Chorus: "Holiness unto the Lord" is our watchword and song," "Holiness unto the Lord" as we're marching along; Sing it, shout it, loud and long, "Holiness unto the Lord," now and forever.

3 "Called unto holiness," praise His dear name! This blessed secret to faith now made plain, Not our own righteousness, but Christ within, Living and reigning and saving from sin.

Chorus: "Holiness unto the Lord" is our watchword and song," "Holiness unto the Lord" as we're marching along; Sing it, shout it, loud and long, "Holiness unto the Lord," now and forever.

4 "Called unto holiness," Bride of the Lamb, Waiting the Bridegroom's returning again; Lift up your heads, for the day draweth near When in His beauty the King shall appear.

Chorus: "Holiness unto the Lord" is our watchword and song," "Holiness unto the Lord" as we're marching along; Sing it, shout it, loud and long, "Holiness unto the Lord," now and forever.

“The Love of God”

The love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell. It goes beyond the highest star And reaches to the lowest hell. The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled And pardoned from his sin.

O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure— The saints’ and angels’ song.

When years of time shall pass away, And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall; When men who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call; God’s love, so sure, shall still endure, All measureless and strong; Redeeming grace to Adam’s race— The saints’ and angels’ song.

O love of God, how rich and pure!

How measureless and strong!

It shall forevermore endure-

The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made; Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole,

Tho’ stretched from sky to sky.

O love of God, how rich and pure!

How measureless and strong!

It shall forevermore endure-

The saints’ and angels’ song.

Invitation

Confession

Pardon

Peace

Pastor Ryan: Christ our Lord invites to his table all

Who love him,

Who earnestly repent of their sin

And seek to live in peace with one

Another,

Therefore, let us confess our sin before

God and one another.

Congregation: Merciful God, We confess that we have not loved you

with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church.

We have not done your will,

We have broken your law,

We have rebelled against your love,

We have not loved our neighbors,

And we have not heard the cry of the needy.

Forgive us we pray. Free us for joyful obedience,

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

(Silent confession)

Pastor Ryan: Hear the good news, Christ dierd for us

While we were still sinners, which

Proves God’s love for us. In the name of

Jesus Christ, You are forgiven.

Congregation: In the name of Jesus Christ, You are forgiven.

Glory to God, Amen.

Proverbs 9:1-6

1 Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn her seven pillars.

2 She has slaughtered her animals, she has mixed her wine, she has also set her table.

3 She has sent out her servant-girls, she calls from the highest places in the town,

4 "You that are simple, turn in here!" To those without sense she says,

5 "Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed.

6 Lay aside immaturity, and live, and walk in the way of insight."

Pastoral Prayer-Joys & Concerns

Scripture: John 6:51-58

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."

52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"

53 So Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day;

55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.

56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.

57 Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me.

58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever."

“How Deep the Father’s Love for Us”

How deep the Father’s love for us, How vast beyond all measure, That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss – The Father turns His face away, As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders; Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life – I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything, No gifts, no power, no wisdom; But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer; But this I know with all my heart – His wounds have paid my ransom.

“Known and Loved”

We've been hiding,

in the shadows

Lost and afraid of you

We've been hiding,

in the shadows

Lost and afraid of you

We are known and loved

Known and loved

We are known and loved by you

You've been waiting,

to show us mercy

Your presence is our home

We're your children,

loved forever

Now every fear is gone

We are known and loved

Known and loved

We are known and loved by you

Scripture: Ephesians 3:14-21

14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father,

15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name.

16 I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit,

17 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.

18 I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth,

19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine,

21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Message: Pastor Ryan

Communion

Pastor Ryan: The Communion Supper, instituted by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a sacrament, which proclaims His life, His sufferings, His sacrificial death and resurrection, and the hope of His coming again. It shows forth the Lord’s death until His return. The Supper is a means of grace in which Christ is present by the Spirit.

It is to be received in reverent appreciation and gratefulness for the work of Christ. All those who are truly repentant, forsaking their sins, and believing in Christ for salvation are invited to participate in the death and resurrection of Christ. We come to the table that we may be renewed in life and salvation and be made one by the Spirit.

In unity with the Church, we confess our faith:

Congregation: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Pastor Ryan: Holy God, We gather at this, your table, in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who by your Spirit was anointed to preach good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives, set at liberty those who are oppressed. Christ healed the sick, fed the hungry, ate with sinners, and established the new covenant for forgiveness of sins. We live in the hope of His coming again.

On the night in which He was betrayed, He took bread, gave thanks, broke the bread, gave it to His disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me

Likewise, when the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks, gave it to His disciples, and said: “Drink from this, all of you, this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in remembrance of

Me.” Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

And so, we gather as the Body of Christ to offer ourselves to you in praise and thanksgiving. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us and on these your gifts. Make them by the power of your Spirit to be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the

world the Body of Christ, redeemed by His blood.

By your Spirit make us one in Christ, one with each other, and one in the ministry of Christ to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Amen. And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, let us pray:

ALL: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen
